Transfer Factor and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease where the immune system attacks healthy tissue. One for hopeful treatment is with Transfer Factor. I have written often on this blog about my profound gratitude to the 4life company that is the source for Transfer Factor, which restored my body to equilibrium and allowed me to breathe without toxic drugs and inhalers.

TF was used in an experiment with 50 female patients with RA.  The patients were followed for 24 months, with check ups every three months. Of the 50 patients, 30% did not respond to the therapy. Excellent and very good results were obtained in the other 70%. The study confirmed the fact that specific immunotherapy with Transfer Factor represents an important adjuvant in the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Here is a testimonial from a physician :

I have had quite severe Rheumatoid Arthritis for nearly ten months now. My Rheumatic Factor was exceptionally high and I was very sick with it.

The bones around the joints; particularly the metacarpophalangeal joints; have become enlarged and deformed. They are also very fragile and I have had a spontaneous fracture-dislocation of one of my finger joints already. It seemed that a wheelchair was in my near future.

However; since taking an increasing dose of advanced generation transfer factors; I am now walking with a normal gait instead of painfully and slowly waddling about.

Getting in and out of cars is no longer a major task; I can turn taps on and off and today I even; admittedly rather gingerly; kicked a soccer ball along the length of a park with my grandson.

If you had asked me a week ago whether I could ever do any of these things again I would have thought that you were either very ignorant or a bit cruel to tease me with these unattainable delights.

Apart from this I feel a lot more “switched on” and people have been telling me how well I look.

Thank you once again and God bless you for having done me so much good.

Negative Side Effects of Steroids

Corticosteroids can be life saving. That was the case with me and severe asthma. Steroids are anti-inflammatory; they decrease pain, swelling, and relieve itching. The problem is that what should have been a very short term treatment turned into 14 years, until I was introduced to Transfer Factor which I have often written about on this blog.  When treating our dogs, horses, cats, and ourselves, it is imperative to be informed.

The negative side effects of corticosteroids are the reason they should be used as briefly, and in as low doses as possible. They decrease the ability of wounds to heal. They increase the chance of infection. They can contribute to destruction of joints by decreasing collagen. They suppress the immune system.  They increase appetite and thirst. In cats, an increase in diabetes has been seen.  Steroid use can also upset laboratory tests, causing misdiagnosis of other problems.

A holistic approach to replacing toxic steroids will include nutrition, omega fatty acids, antioxidants, Vitamins such as C, A, E, glucosamine, MSM, yucca, bromelain, and so many more. These approaches are safe and non-toxic.  You will save money on drugs and vet bills.

Natural Approaches to Arthritis

Lameness is a common symptom of arthritis in older animals. Many veterinarians prescribe corticosteroids, or other potentially toxic medications, but there are more natural and safe options. Conventional therapies treat pain and inflammation, but rarely help the stiff and swollen joint to heal .

Each animal is an individual and a dedicated owner may have to try several treatment options before the magic cocktail is found.  The goal is not just to suppress symptoms, but to actually heal the body in a holistic way.

I have discussed acupuncture, cold laser therapy, massage,Transfer Factor (wonderful for the inflammation of arthritis) and other homeopathic and herbal remedies on this blog. Many natural remedies can relieve pain and supply nutrients to help cartilage heal.

Arthritis results from erosion of the cartilage lining of the joints. Since there are no nerves in this cartilage, a great amount of damage can occur before the surrounding joint tissues become inflamed and painful. So once again, prevention is the key. The earlier diagnosis is made, the greater the chance for healing.

Glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, enzymes, fatty acids, can all help heal cartilage.

Bowed Tendons and Massage

Bowed tendons are most common in horses that work at speed. The inflammation and swelling is caused by rupture of tendon fibers. Aside from speed, other contributing factors are fatigue, poor conditioning, poor footing, poor shoeing, poor conformation…

Often with veterinary problems, there is too much to worry about (icing, medication, stall rest, etc.) to think about muscle spasms and compensations that may affect the outcome of the rehabilitation. The horse may recover, but never move as well as it did before the injury. This may be a sign that there are tight muscles and body work may be the answer.

When a horse is on stall rest and coming back to work, they are often given sedation and muscle relaxers so they don’t hurt themselves and others. Muscle relaxers and pain medication will relax all the muscles and mask problems, but as soon as they wear off, all the muscles will return to their state of tension.

Along with body work, cold laser therapy is wonderful for a bowed tendon, which by definition is inflammation (either acute or chronic) of the tendon fibers. Products such as Traumeel, DMSO, and Transfer Factor can also help greatly in the recovery process.

Horses and Transfer Factor

Dr. Molly Metz, DVM, Lexington, Kentucky

  • A 3-yr-old warmblood with history of chronic cough and nasal discharge was unresponsive to antibiotics. Within two weeks of being on transfer factors, both the nasal discharge and cough went away. This colt is being maintained on a maintenance dose of Transfer Factor for Horses and Livestock.
  • A 19-yr-old late gestation mare had stringhalt, ataxia, and moderate ear droop. I began the mare on TF Performance and Show to improve its immune function prior to foaling. After 30 days of being on the TF Performance and Show, this mare had no evidence of stringhalt or ataxia, and only a mild ear droop. This is the first time in her life she was able to pull her ear forward in a normal position. She also is cushionoid and suffered miserably in last summer’s heat, being unable to sweat. This spring, when temperatures reached 80 degrees, she was sweating in the field.
  • I had a 2-year-old thoroughbred filly with a history of multiple bone pain and suspected neurological condition. This filly was diagnosed with physitis in multiple bones (via bone scan) and as a wobbler on radiographs. I placed her on the animal products to see if she could be improved enough to go into training. The farm has begun breaking her and her movement has improved by approximately 80%. I am waiting to hear if the farm feels she’s good enough to go to the track.

Dr. Joe Raemakers, DVM – “We recently had an experience with a 30-year-old horse who had a leg swollen from infection. I applied transfer factors directly to the leg and within 6 days the swelling was totally gone. I checked his lymphocyte level and he had a 27% increase since the use of transfer factors. THAT’S JUST PHENOMENAL!”

Rob Robertson, M.D. – “Nearly everything that goes wrong with us and our pets, with the exception of trauma – i.e. broken bones, etc., can be traced directly to an immune system failure”. Pollution, drug overload and nutrient-poor diets compromise our immune health. The key to self-healing is a strong defense system, which protects dogs and cats from everything from the flu germs to cancer cells. More than their mainstream counterparts, holistic veterinarians believe that a weak immune system plays a key role in causing disease. Drugs aren’t the answer for immune enhancement. The immune system is not responsive to drugs for healing. Antibiotics fight infection, but they don’t affect whatever weakened the immune system in the first place. This is why holistic veterinarians focus less on things that cause diseases and more on those that affect the body’s defenses.

Natural Cures for Joint Pain

Many people seem to accept as fate that they will become less active as they get older. They believe that it’s normal to be plagued by stiffness, soreness, and pain as they age. Well, I’m here to tell you that this false belief can cause you to suffer unnecessarily.

Staying Active Is the Fountain of Youth

Here’s a simple truth to remember. Nothing does more for your quality of life and longevity than staying active as you age. And what usually keeps people from staying active is some combination of believing that aches and pains are a NORMAL part of the aging process, and quite simply, bad advice from their doctors. Despite what your doctor might tell you, there’s an underlying cause for joint pain that may have nothing to do with your age. It’s important to understand that the conventional approach to joint pain is basically to band-aid the issue with painkillers.

The current medical mentality on pain management has spurred a multibillion-dollar industry for Big Pharma. However, studies show that long-term use of seemingly “harmless” over-the-counter pills, such as ibuprofen, can actually weaken your joints over time, and prescription pain pills have a well-established track record of causing serious damage and even death. You may recall the tragedy that unfolded around the FDA-approved painkiller Vioxx, which claimed as many as 55,000 lives(and possibly up to 100,000) before the FDA banned it. It makes me wonder, is the next Vioxx lurking out there?

I’m on a mission to let people know that they have a choice when it comes to managing joint pain. Despite what your doctor might say, you don’t have to stop exercising and take painkilling medications just to maintain an acceptable quality of life as you get older. And any way you slice it, taking painkillers long term, even ibuprofen, is NOT safe.

What Plants are Poisonous for Horses?

There are many plants that can be poisonous when eaten by a horse. All can be fatal if enough is eaten.  Here are a few of the main culprits:

Yew leaves and twigs are extremely dangerous if a horse eats even a small amount. Horses may be found dead with leaves still in their mouths. There is no treatment.

St. John’s Wort can cause liver damage and sun sensitivity.

Horsetail and Bracken

Acorns and Oak leaves due to their high tannin content, which can cause kidney damage.

Bracken Fern

Hemlock

Oleander: disrupts the heartbeat.

Red Maple

Yellow Star Thistle

To help a horse recover from poisoning, be sure to give Transfer Factor to promote healing, strengthen the immune system, and reduce inflammation.

Transfer Factor and Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disease that causes chronic muscle and bone pain. The cause is unknown, but evidence suggests that diet and supplements, such as Transfer Factor, magnesium, and malic acid can significantly ease the symptoms.

Anecdotal evidence shows Transfer Factor improving the health of bedridden patients with fibromalgia in as little as 4 days. Patients were able to walk and sleep was not interrupted by severe pain.

A woman in her 50’s suffered with fibromyalgia for 20 years. She had made the rounds of doctors and clinics. Some suggested she had a virus that had never left her body. She was given diet and exercise plans and told to live with her condition. She had headaches, sleepless nights, pain, fatigue, and irritable bowel syndrome. When she heard about Transfer Factor she was skeptical, but willing to try one more thing. Two weeks after starting on Transfer Factor, she slept better and the pain and fatigue were subsiding. At the end of three months she was a “different person”. (This is very much what I experienced after taking multiple medications for asthma for 15 years before being introduced to Transfer Factor. I barely remember what asthma feels like now!) Continue reading

Dogs, Distemper, and Transfer Factor

By Dr. Baruch Rosen, M.D.:

“As a physician of nearly thirty years, I was well aware that no antibiotic would protect against the ravages of viral disease, particularly canine distemper which shows similarities to HIV. My seven month old white haired Shepard was adopted from a local shelter and was initially joyful and healthy. Within three weeks he developed coarse bronchitis with heavy mucus drainage of the nose and eyes. Our well intentioned vet believed the problem to be kennel cough and started antibiotics. Over the next ten days Romeo failed to improve, but instead experienced seven hard and long grand mall seizures in one weekend, a partial paralysis of the hind quarters which made him fall flat when attempting to walk and a “spaced-out gaze” of non-recognition. Blood studies confirmed distemper and showed a white cell count (lymphocytes) of only 264 slightly more than ten percent of normal. Our vet a second out-of-state consulting vet, an expert in distemper were very sympathetic and advised me to prepare myself to euthanize Romeo.

The heartache was compounded when Chico, my thirteen month old Chihuahua developed similar symptoms of hard coughing and heavy mucus drainage from the eyes. Reviewing his shot record, I learned he was mistakenly given only one distemper immunization, leaving him inadequately protected; and by licking Romeo’s mucus and drinking from his water dish had contracted the infection.

Knowing little to nothing about canine distemper, I turned to the internet and luckily stumbled onto transfer factors, a preparation which enhances and stimulates the body’s own immune system to fight against all pathogens, viral or otherwise. My thirty years in medicine told me this was the only solution. I hurriedly started Chico and Romeo on one cap daily encased in one teaspoonful of raw hamburger. Over the next two weeks all cough and mucus drainage ceased. Romeo’s follow-up blood count had risen to normal range at 2217 and he surprised the whole family by jumping a five foot wall. He romps and plays all day long with Chico, now responds normally to his name and appears to be his old joyful self again.

Having witnessed the recoveries of Chico and Romeo, and after further study, all family members are taking transfer factors, one cap daily; our insurance policy to protect against a faltering immune system, the inevitable consequence of aging and exposure to environmental pollution and toxins.  I fully intend to spread the word to all my colleagues and good friends. Dr. Baruch Rosen, M.D.

NOTE: Dr. Rosen is also using transfer factors for Parvo and other viral or infectious condition with excellent results.

A Natural Anti Inflammatory for Horses?

I was recently working at a jumper show and heard that Banamine (flunixin meglumine) was being given routinely to the horses to prevent inflammation. I have seen banamine give a horse with colic quick relief, so I value having a medicine like that handy in emergencies, but really question the safety of using it daily.

Like most medications Banamine can be toxic or have side-effects.  Toxicity can occur when given over a long period of time, when too much is given (overdose), or given too frequently.  The main complications associated with toxicity are generally with the kidneys and gastro-intestinal tract.  Kidney failure can be associated with Banamine toxicity.

I have taken Transfer Factor for 11 years for and often write about it here. I have not needed to see a doctor once during the past 11 years.  One of the many benefits of this miracle supplement is the known effects of transfer factor on immune responses and inflammation. It is concluded that transfer factor has multiple sites of action, including effects on the thymus, on lymphocyte-monocyte and/or lymphocyte-lymphocyte interactions, as well as direct effects on cells in inflammatory sites. Transfer Factor has no side effects (other than improved health and energy!). Feel free to ask me any questions you might have about transfer factors and I will either have the information in my files, or connect you with a physician or veterinarian who can answer your questions. You can purchase it from the “I Recommend” sidebar on the right.
